SXSW Hosts New Grindhouse Contest

SXSW today announced an exciting new contest they're sponsoring with director Robert Rodriguez, in anticipation of the upcoming Rodriguez-Tarantino double feature, Grindhouse.

Filmmakers are invited to submit their best "grindhouse trailers" for a fictional feature-length film, in the same vein as those being made by celebrity directors Eli Roth and Rob Zombie. Rodriguez (Sin City, Spy Kids, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) himself will judge the best submissions and share these at a SXSW Film Festival presentation entitled “Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse 101.” During the presentation, Rodriguez will also share stories and footage from the making of the upcoming Dimension Films release.

“We really want filmmakers to come up with something fun, scary, freaky, and out-of-this-world for the competition,” says SXSW Festival Producer Matt Dentler. “This competition, like Grindhouse itself, is in the true spirit of innovative and fast-paced filmmaking.”

All submissions should be received no later than February 12th. There's no application fee, but the trailers must clock in at under two minutes, be made within the last twelve months, and cannot have otherwise been submitted to SXSW 2007. You can mail stuff to:
