The Laurie Show

First, it's warm in town. Then by weekend's end, I'm told, we'll freeze our tushkas off. I wish the weather would be a bit less schizo, but welcome to Texas!
Things have been slightly chaotic for yours truly at KUT 90.5; I've gradually been making the transition to full-time producer and announcer-type person. The great news is that the segment I produce, Before the Break, will be returning in full force, and there are plans to put the segments on the air, in addition to the podcast and website accessibility. Be on the lookout for more BTB stories very soon. Hooray for that!
Meanwhile, Friday night's where it's at. Lot's of inspiration to be had for tonight's Laurie Show. Pay a visit to Hole In the Wall for another great show with Crawling With Kings, Mice & Rifles, and Xcella. (Melissa, one of Xcella's keyboardists, will be celebrating her birthday this evening, so a toast to her is in order!)
Expect more great shows coming up on the horizon at the Mohawk on Red River, and that certainly includes tonight's CD release party for ST 37. Midori Umi and Cavedweller will also play at the party, so check it out.
Just a stroll down the street over at Beerland, All In the Golden Afternoon, featuring Rachel Goldstar and Carlos Jackson, will have their first live performance, sharing the bill with For Those Who Know and AM Syndicate. Fantastic music all around.
There's also a show tomorrow night at the Parish on 6th St. that surely has one of the most interestingly mismatched performers gathered for one gig - including the fashion model that'll be gracing the catwalk. Seriously. This also makes it one of the hottest shows to be at.
UnlockAustin.com, Austin's new live music recommendation website, is celebrating 2007 with their spectacular Lose Your Resolution show, to help you get rid of those ridiculous so-called New Year's resolutions that needlessly pile up your to-do list.
Simultaneously, this event will give you a fashion spectacle that you'll never forget. The IV Thieves, the White Ghost Shivers, and Seth Walker, each of whom will perform, have also designed outfits for one of Austin's most unique residents - and one-time mayoral candidate - Leslie, for a fashion show of epic proportions. Don't believe me? Find out for yourself. Truth is stranger than fiction, and with all of these peeps together in one place...well...let the chaos begin.
The CD's are calling, kids. Remember: 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. tonight, KUT 90.5 FM. I keep the talking to a minimum to get more music in. Isn't that what it's about? And, as our pal RoboCop would say, thank you for your cooperation.

...we'll freeze our tushkas off.
I believe the correct Yiddish term is tukhes. It's pronouced "took-us," but the second syllable begins with a sound like clearing your throat. ;-)
