When you spend nearly every weekend watching all forms of low-budget, pseudo-experimental performance in barely converted warehouses, you find yourself yearning for shows that are just a little more polished. So, when a new company sprouts up, featuring ballet allstars from around the country, and headed by both a nationally recognized choreographer and composer, your interest is piqued.
Enter American Repertory Ensemble. The company’s first production, Dialogues, was part contemporary ballet, part classical music concert and part theatre – with some old school ballet thrown in for good measure. We saw it. It was awesome.
Expressions, ARE’s latest offering, looks to be more of the same. David Justin, the company’s Artistic Director of Dance, will again be showing work, as will Rob Deemer, the Artistic Director of Music. Ikolo Griffin, who astounded audiences in Dialogues, returns to perform solo, and the Tosca String Quartet, Austin’s internationally renowned string ensemble, is set to appear performing Deemer’s Speedvisions. Expressions will also feature choreographers Julia Adam and Christopher Stowell, and composers Martinu, Tchaikovsky, and Vaughn Williams.
And that’s not all. We’re offering you, dear reader, the chance to go for free. Hooray! So fill out the form below, and we’ll let you know.
