Insert dramatic sigh of relief right here, kids. Yours truly is truly not fond of the hectic holiday time in December, but it's fair to say I came out unscathed, and obviously ready to enjoy more great music from all the incredibly talented peeps we have in our city.

As you may know, tonight I have my weekly gig with KUT 90.5. Let us see what has inspired me for this evening's listening experience:

Looks like some of my favorite bands are rather busy this weekend. The Ugly Beats and The Faceless Werewolves are both part of two must-see shows; one extremely HUGE one this evening at Red 7 on E. 7th St. that features no less than 13 bands on two stages. Then tomorrow night, the kids take over the Mohawk on Red River for a fabulous Winter Dance Party, including more groovy music by The Dolly Partners on the bill. Never can have too much of a good thing. If you don't go to one of these shows, go to the other. Don't miss out.

Another band to stimulate the ear: Midori Umi plays Room 710 tonight. Looking forward to more great music in 2007 from these kids, as well.

Dynah's had a busy day today, playing the in-store at Cheapo's, then heading out to their gig at Flamingo Cantina for a free show.

Did you make the rounds at the Blanton Museum for the fantastic B Scene? The museum is located at MLK and Congress, and each month, it has a wonderful party to entertain visitors and highlight some incredible artwork. This time, don't miss out on My Education, another band I'll have music from tonight. Kudos to Blanton for providing such a great night!

Speaking of My Education, I'm reminded that FREE week (notice the capitalization of the word FREE) began tonight at Emo's. How can you resist? So many bands to choose from. I don't even know where to begin to name names, but I'll do my best to feature at least a few of these artists on my humble program. Thank you, Emo's, for keeping this tradition going. My pockets are still empty from December's shopping bills. Egad.

It's time to start pulling the CD's together for tonight's debauchery, so I'll leave you for now. But you know the time and place, kiddoes: 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., at 90.5 on your dial. Tune in, and turn it up. Who knows how I'll get all this music in...

And - well, you know the drill. As RoboCop would say: Thank you for your cooperation.
