It's that time of the year again. Time to reflect back upon all the great shows that we attended, all the Lone Star we drank because we couldn't afford anything else, and all the ditches we fell asleep in. But now, as the holidays bear down upon our weary bodies like a drunken hook-up, its time to give something back. Luckily for us, there are two opportunities to do just that in the coming days. Redeem yourself for all those bad decisions you made in 2006 by coming out to support local charities and maybe Santa will reconsider that K-Fed CD he was gonna toss at your despicable ass.
Tonight at The Parish, Austin musical luminaries will be coming out of the woodwork to belt out your favorite holiday songs. Guests include members of Okkervil River, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Soundteam, Voxtrot, Zykos, Shearwater, Alpha Rev, Alex Dupree, Jeff Klein, Zookeeper, and Loxsly. All proceeds will find their way into the hands of the good people at the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. Come out, drink, sing-along, and feel good about yourself.
Now, if you're sticking around this 'burg for the weekend, you have another chance at redeeming your mortal soul at Wintershow, hosted by The Mohawk. Acts include Bill Callahan, Shearwater, Nick Hennies (of the Weird Weeds), and Brian Sookram. The show benefits not one, but two fine Austin charitable institutions: SafePlace and the aforementioned Capital Area Food Bank. Hell, Pitchfork even wrote it up!
