Nas Hip Hop Is Dead (Def Jam)
Nas' 8th studio album (and first with Def Jam) marks the end of the Jay-Z feud and the beginning of post-hip hop recording, should we believe his figurative burial scene. As one of rap's more prominent figures, the imagery begs the question: What exactly is Nas doing with this album if hip hop is dead? Are we listening to the birth of something new, or the funeral march for what he once represented? All we know is that we somehow missed the boat on the leak of "Black Republican", and hope that the collaboration with Jay-Z is as interesting as it should be.

Amy Winehouse Back to Black (UMVD Import)
The British jazz and soul singer, Mercury Prize winner and, let's face it, hot babe Winehouse is finally releasing another full length after a successful debut entitled Frank. The first single from her latest offering, "Rehab", is a clever romp through a variety of genres, telling the tale of her previous management company's desire for her to enter a rehabilitation center. That being said, the video is a perfect companion to the song, mixing visual elements of jazz, blues and hip hop with her soulful voice and cheeky persona to a great end.

Couldn't Trick Daddy get a little more nuanced with his latest album's title... at least Back By Thug-ular Demand? Why you gotta do me like that Trick Daddy? Maybe it's Trick Daddy "tricking" me into thinking he's not as deep as he really is... hmmm.
