ColumnIST: The Laurie Show

The following is a weekly column by guest contributor Laurie Gallardo. Hear her, Friday evenings, on KUT 90.5FM. -- The Editors

Shalom, hepcats, and a Happy Hanukkah to you. I listened to Adam Sandler this morning because I truly appreciate his renowned tribute to the season, “The Hanukkah Song.” I appreciate the fact that he updates it every year, too. Put on your yarmulke…

I’ll feature groovy music this evening on KUT 90.5, in my own tribute to some rather groovy bands performing at Beerland on Red River. If you so desire, spin the dreidel during Beerland’s happy hour tonight, when The Ugly Beats take to the stage at 7 p.m. to rock you silly. Very groovy indeed, and the groove-osity continues into the evening with more great music by Those Peabodys, Strange Boys, The Carrots, and Yellow Fever. Far out, man.

There’s a CD release shin-dig tonight at Stubb’s for Mice and Rifles, by the way. The Texas Sapphires and Adam White from The Personals will join in the fun.

A lot of activity along Red River tonight, as it should be; stroll on down to Emo’s for a gig with Moonlight Towers, The Fall Collection, and Cassette, all on the inside stage.

Also on my playlist: Plenty of music by a great line-up at the Parish tomorrow evening, which includes The Lemurs, Maneja Beto, ’Til We’re Blue Or Destroy and Xcella

Before I forget:  An important message to all the local peeps who really, really need to get their stuff to me, ASAP. I enjoy writing about your upcoming shows, but it’s frustrating when I don’t have your CD’s or EP’s so I can play a tune or two on my humble program. There is a way to get your band’s music to me at KUT. Plaster my name on the package and ship it to:

KUT 90.5

I’ll be out the following Friday, Dec. 22, but be sure you have me on the car stereo loud and proud tonight when you’re holiday party-hopping: KUT 90.5, on the FM, from 11 p.m. to 3 in the frickin’ morning. And, as my pal RoboCop would say, thank you for your cooperation.
