House Bill To Let the Blind Kill More Easily

We're big fans of universal accessibility and all, but we were a little confused when we saw this bit in today's edition of PopBitch:

A proposed new law in Texas would permit blind people to go hunting with guns.

Needless to say, we immediately surfed over to BillHop.com to see what this could possibly be about, but came up empty. BBC News turned out to have the full scoop.

Representative Edmund Kuempel (R-Seguin), vice chair of the Culture, Recreation, and Tourism Committee, has proposed a bill that would allow legally blind people to rely on a laser sighting device for hunting wild game, while assisted by a not legally blind person. House Bill 308 purports to modify the current laws on hunting with light, which state that "no person may hunt a game animal or bird protected by this code with the aid of an artificial light that casts or reflects a beam of light onto or otherwise illuminates the game animal or bird."

"This opens up the fun of hunting to additional people, and I think that's great," said Kuempel.
