Preview: Pete Yorn, Sound Team, Starsailor @ Antone's

Yes, the holidays are here. Not only does this mean Christmas-themed beers and colder weather, but it also heralds the ubiquitous radio station holiday concert. Tonight, it's 101X's turn, as they bring a triple bill of artists to the intimate room at Antone's.

Headlining is New Jersey's Pete Yorn, a guy who obviously listens to lots of earnest stuff like Bruce Springsteen. Luckily for Pete, Bruce is this year's band to emulate, so songs from his new disc Nightcrawler will likely provoke head nodding from both the indie kids who like The Hold Steady and the meat and potatoes rockers in the crowd. Yorn's tough to figure out: his first disc was great, the second one was terrible, and the new one lands squarely in between. Hopefully the new songs will translate best in a live setting.

Supporting are locals Sound Team, who seem to be gigging everywhere of late. The band has issued their debut on Capitol records, played Lollapalooza, and been savaged by Pitchfork this year, so all in all things are going quite well for them. It's a nice thing to see 101X ask them to play this bill, though we wonder how much airplay they've given Sound Team outside of Andy Langer's great Sunday evening new music show.

Early arrivals will also get an acoustic set from Starsailor, one of the runners-up in the UK sensitive rock sweepstakes won by Coldplay and Snow Patrol. The band specializes in big anthems and heartfelt lyrics, and even worked with Phil Spector on their second album right before he went off the rails. Starsailor hits town in support of new disc On The Outside, which garnered generally favorable reviews and some UK chart success. They will certainly be better than any first act of a three-band show that you've seen in a while.

Overall, the 101X lineup makes for a very nice Wednesday night at a rock club, so we'll see you there. See videos from Starsailor and Pete Yorn after the jump.
