College News Bits!

  • The Young Conservatives of Texas created a national stir when they displayed their ACLU Solstice Barn on the UT campus. This parody of the nativity scene featured parents Gary and Joseph, Nancy Pelosi as an angel, a terrorist as a sheppard and Marx, Lenin and Stalin as the Three Wise Men. They got pictures, too.

  • Students at UT recently held a sit-in at the Flawn Academic Center seeking 24-hour access to computer and study areas on campus. Although plans are unofficial, looks like the University Co-Op might offer financial assistance to help get the ball rolling.

  • UT online just premiered ultra-trendy, Longhorn Confidential--eight student blogs that attempt to "reveal behind-the-scenes look at college life," perhaps the cheesiest thing to enter the blogosphere in a while. In coming months, logon to see the drama unfold as one student develops an eating disorder, another comes out to his East Texas parents, and a third "learns the hard way" about drinking and driving.

  • Tumbleweed warning: UT classes for the Fall '06 Semester are now over. Final Exams begin on Wednesday, December 13th and will end December 19th. Enjoy the serenity while you can, classes for the spring semester begin January 16th.

The handwriting on the "solstice barn" looks like a third-grader's. Big surprise there.
