Label-mates (and band-mates) The Channel and Golden Bear have been making the rounds at Austin venues for the past few months, hot on the heels of their respective CD releases. However, this Saturday the Channel will mix things up at the Parish with a re-do of Harry Nilsson’s The Point. A tale revolving around the only round-headed boy in the Land of Point, the story has been reinterpreted in various media, including an animated film and a musical. But the Channel have their own take on the fable, and they want you to be a part of the show. For free admission, along with a chance to join the band on stage for a game of Triangle Toss, the Land of Point’s national pastime, just email the band by noon on Saturday with an answer to the age old query, What is “the Point?"

Golden Bear opens the show with their infectious brand of romp and pomp. The band’s self-titled debut, out on C-Side Records, may share contributors with the Channel, but it clearly stands apart, spearheaded by the magnetic Chris “Grizzle” Gregory. GB's sonic soundscapes, featuring loud guitars, louder drums, and a mix of horns, synth, and high energy, will set the backdrop for a magical night of storybook rock n’ roll.
