AMODA Returns to The Mohawk for Digital Showcase 40

The Austin Museum of Digital Art (AMODA) returns to The Mohawk tonight to host Digital Showcase 40. We'll let them tell you about tonight's show:

The headliner for this month's Digital Showcase is DAT Politics from France. Over the last six years, this trio has released six albums packed with distorted bleeps, 8-bit video game melodies, cute pet recordings, and other sonic oddities. Their latest album, ‘Wow Twist’, was recently released on Chicks On Speed Records, and takes their sound in a more song-based and pop-oriented direction, while maintaining their knack for playful electronic excursions. The perversely catchy hooks on ‘Wow Twist’ are accompanied by vocals that blend bizarre rock and sci-fi themes, and punctuated by furious casiotones and insistent rhythms. This album perfectly captures the wild euphoria of DAT Politics' remarkably energetic live shows, which stunned Austin audiences at their last two AMODA appearances.

Other performers include Kevin Blechdom, who is on tour with DAT Politics. This former member of Austin band Adult Rodeo now lives in Berlin, and plays a unique form of quirky lo-fi electronic pop. Also, local laptop musician Proem will give a rare performance, having just released his sixth album of lush, beat-driven soundscapes on Merck Records. Bookending the night will be two DJ sets by locals Majora y Minora, who are sure to cause much dancing with their love of obscure and underground house, techno, electro, and italo-disco.

Meanwhile, the showcase will also feature a wide range of visual artists. This will include video pieces such as the processed organic forms of C505 (NYC), the software-based visual improvisations of Bertrand Gondouin (Sweden), the beautiful meditations on nature and architecture by Adam Kendall (NYC), the homosexual revolutionary art of Paul Giggo (Austin), and VJ set excerpts from Chris Jordan (NYC). There will also be animation pieces including the dark, frenetic vector graphics of Motomichi Nakamura (NYC), the stop-motion doll narratives of Friends With You (Miami), and the lo-fi video game creations of Michael Miles. Lastly, there will be a TV-based installation piece by Dan Winckler (NYC).
