Blue Genie Art Bazaar Starts Today

The sixth annual Blue Genie Art Bazaar kicks off today at Blue Genie's eastside headquarters. The 18-day event, featuring a bevy of local and regional artisans and artists, is an excellent opportunity to find one-of-a-kind clothes, ceramics, original paintings, photographs, sculpture, accessories, and more.

Participating artists include the Austin Craft Mafiosa (Tina Sparkles, Jennifer Perkins, Jesse Kelly-Landis), Obsolete Industries, the guy who wrote Manspace: A Primal Guide to Marking Your Territory, and local painter extraordinaire Michael Schliefke. We're particularly excited to check out more work by the immensely talented Travis Nichols, whose cartoonish paintings never fail to make us smile.

The missus and I went yesterday to buy a couple of graduation gifts, and found interesting, personalized items that fit the bill nicely. We also ran into Sam Hurt stocking his section (the artist who used to draw Eyebeam comics), and Kathy bought one of his original sketches from him for the kitchen.

I've been to Blue Genie once before, but went this time because y'all reminded me right before I needed to buy gifts, so thanks! We enjoyed it.
