Man, somewhere along the way we killed anthemic stadium rock, or at least ran it six feet into the ground with overexposure and under-talented hair ripoffs. But don't you wish we could resurrect Queen and T-Rex and and ask them to share (and fucking shread) an Austin stage for just one magical night of robust, raunchy riffs, reminding us rock fans what we're supposed to do and how we're supposed to do it? And wouldn't it be great if it could happen, say, tonight?
Holy crap! We just realized that your wish has totally been granted thanks to Green Potato Ventures and the Mohawk! NYC's Earl Greyhound is rolling into town with winter-storm force, bringing with them one of the most Led Zeppelinly, energetic live shows you'll ever see. As the New Yorker put it, EG "could actually pull off opening for the masters [Zeppelin]." We agree--or maybe it's Zeppelin opening for EG...hmmm. Lead singer Matt Whyte not only shreaks out rock lyrics with Mercury-esque purity, but he also has long, flowing hair and the physique of a young hippie girl. Rock'n'fuckin'roll. The beautiful bass-playing back-up singer, Kamara Thomas, may as well be the lead singer, the way her voice knocks us over every time she steps up to the mic. And drummer Ricc Sheridan will kick your ass. Simple as that--he'll kick your ass in everything you do.
Local faves The Paper South and The Early Tapes will deliver the one and two punches in this one-two-three rockout lineup. So to all you fat-bottomed girls and 20th Century boys out there in the Bat City, grab the leather jacket and getcho' ass to the Mohawk TONIGHT! Thank you Austin, Texas!
Congrats, winners!
