Homemade Bombs Found in Hays County Homes

We hate that we're not making this up: yesterday morning, a student at Hays High School reported to school officials that a few students had equipment to create bombs at home. Monday afternoon, bombs (that we assume were in the midst of being made) were found in three Hays County residences. Charges will be filed sometime today against the suspected students.

Two such attempts this year against schools in our neck of the woods is two too many. 12/6 update: Authorities now believe that the students had no plans against the school.

It's hard for sheep, I mean people, to realize that kids do things liek this for fun. Hell, I used to rig propane tanks to blow up when I was a kid and the power of that could do some serious damage to a car, let alone the flying metal. I had no intentions of blowing up and building or hurting anyone, just having fun.

I also find it quite amusing that the parents say things like "they had bombs and that's just not right for kids." Yet I'm sure they buy fireworks on holidays, hmmmm, who's really responsible for kids wanting to blow stuff up? I wish parents would look at their failures as parents before blaming books or other events.

read the article, no plans to blow up school. young boys are interested in blowing shit up that will probably not change any time soon. when i saw the evening news freaking out about this tonight my first thought was slow news day. try harder austinist.

  • I agree with Stew - there are potential alternative explanations. In high school I used to go hunting before school and would sometimes arrive in the school parking lot with one or two shotguns in the trunk. Today such a discovery would make front page headlines, particularly after some yelling match with a principal, etc..

Using the bombs at the school would be news. Making them at home could be good ol' fashioned redneck chemistry with no criminal intent. Note the story dosen't SAY there's any evidence the kids planned to bomb the school, it just spun the incident that way without evidence, at least none that was presented in the story. Best,

  • anon - I would usually agree with such a statement, except the police found actual bombs that APD had to destroy.

If you look hard enough, you probably have the items to make bombs in your house too. Be afraid, be very afraid. It is easier to rule your lives and take away your rights that way.

I know in the post-Columbine mentality this might be scary, but don't you think it could be just a few kids that want to blow up stuff in their backyard cow pastures?
