We told you last week that Ghostland Observatory would be rocking Hogg Memorial Auditorium. What we didn’t tell you was that they’d be rocking the old joint with The Black Angels. Further left unmentioned was the fact that the show in January will feature one of the most amazing light shows ever seen at an indoor concert in Austin. We recently received a call from GLO’s secret lair, and the fellas are promising to blow everyone’s mind on Friday, January 19th.
The auditorium, built in 1933, usually functions as an opera house and home to classical concerts, but, come January, it will be commandeered by two of the hottest bands in Austin in a performance that is promised to feature a light show on par with a serious arena show. We’d give more details, but we’ve been sworn to secrecy.
Trust us, even the most jaded hipster will not want to miss this show. So, whether you’ve seen the bands once or a hundred times, and especially if you’ve never seen them at all, this is one show you do not want to miss.
Tickets went on sale at noon today.

...but the only question is: where are we going to dance? hogg has rows and rows of old, stale chairs?
hot damn, that's the sickest pairing of austin bands i think i've ever seen. unfortunately, i'll still be in amsterdam at the time (okay, maybe unfortunately isn't the right word).
that's ok, derek. you can go check out Fred Frith at the Bimhuis.
http://www.bimhuis.nl/index.php?lang=en&start=42&stack=30.20.8.1.
or +44 at club paradiso. you know, if you're into that sort of thing

$25? For this? Are you fucking kidding me?
GLO plays for $5.. maybe $10.. all the time.
Black Angels aren't even relevant now that the blog buzz from this spring has worn off and no one gives a shit about a Brian Jonestown Massacre/Jefferson Airplane/The Doors rip off.
At least GLO is entertaining, but $25 entertaining? Doubtful, unless the chick with the braids is going to give blowjobs after the show to everyone in attendance.
i called and checked before buying, "General Admission" will be a "front area" with no chairs, everything else, naturally is "Seating"
GA all the way!
Wow, can Declan threadcrap over everyhing related to Austin music on this site or what? I actually purchased a pair of tickets at noon today for this show prior to this article being posted, so I had no idea the Black Angels were also on the bill...that made it all the better as far as I'm concerned. Sure, $25 would be overpriced if it was a typical gig at Emos or Mohawk, but this is going to be a special show at a nontraditional seated venue, and I'm very curious as to how it will turn out. What's the matter, did the "chick with the braids" not appreciate your smooth patter when you chatted him/her up in line at Amys? Let people enjoy some good Austin bands for once and go back under your bridge, troll.
maybe everyone should show up at declan's next show, not pay the $3 cover to get in somehow, and booh him mercilessly.
I've sung the praise of a number of Austin bands, most recently Golden Bear, White Denim, and La La Land.
My next show is free; The Parlor doesn't charge cover.
Good, we'll save our money for the Ghostland show then. Thanks for letting us know which show not to go to.
If the Hogg has pizza half as good as the Parlor, you may get your money worth after all!
Declan, I thought your next show was at Red Eyed Fly
Being old enough to remember the original lightshows in the 60's, and having heard about the lightshows at the One Knite and the Armadillo in the 70's, if the above line from the article is accurate and not hype, the ticket price sounds reasonable to me. Unless a job or family related emergency comes up, Conan will be there, earplugs in place and LEDs a blazing.
McManus has a point, you guys are out of your minds if you think a fucking light show merits a $25 price tag, regardless of the hipster bullshit onstage. You'll forget about them in a year, just like most Austin hype bands. The Black Angels are a fashion band anyways, get over them.
yawn
If the point is to be catty about a band doing better in town than your own, that's too damn bad. Try a little harder to make a favorable impression next time around. I for one am happy to see two bands that I've enjoyed so far both live and on record (for lack of a better term) get a chance to play together in a unique setting. I made the leap of faith that the show will be worth the ticket price, and if I'm ultimately proven wrong it was still my choice to make. Of course I'd rather spend less money -- I'd always prefer to stretch my entertainment dollar -- but the complaints I'm reading here indicate that you folks are either bigger cheapskates than I am or just jealous hipsters wishing you could make a comparable impact on the scene. Feh.
If the show isn't worth the ticket price, people won't pay it. the last few ghostland and black angels shows have each had a cover charge of at least $10, so both together = 20 + 5 for the light show and DJs seems reasonable all things considered. and coming on here under a nom de plume (or rather the real name of an artist who chose a nom de plume) to bash almost every austin band who has achieved moderate success smacks of bitterness. I'd rather be happy for bands who graduate from Emos to a bigger stage, regardless of whether i personally love their music.
damn, I'm a jackass...even though I bought tickets in the first 5 minutes that they went on sale, I got 'em in the reserved section cause I didn't even think about it...boo, who wants to be sitting down at a Ghostland show!
Thanks for the song of praise Mr.Mcmanus. Maybe we'll meet someday.
Lalaland's moment of hype hasn't come yet. When it does, I'm sure I won't know why..fully, but I'll accept it for what it is.
I'm just glad people are talking and I'm really glad they're talking about Austin bands.
I won't be paying the $25 though. I have to eat.
is everyone poor or what? $25 is not a lot of money for a concert...especially if it has a bonus light show...
