Long a bastion of hilarious pseudo-journalism veiling insightful and viscous social commentary, The Onion was once relegated to small hamlets like Madison, Chicago and New York City. Over the years, it has published compendiums of articles in book format and expanded its coverage to include non-pseudo-reporting with the Onion A.V. club. Now, It has taken itself one step further, reaching out to us smaller urban communities to promulgate its singular wackiness and educate the masses in real "faux" news. Writers from The Onion actually revealed last night that the idea to expand to Austin first surfaced about 14 years ago. They just got, um, busy.
To kick off their Austin unit, the boys and girls at our new Onion outlet are throwing a helluva party, enlisting some of the buzzinest bands this side of Town Lake. Tonight, at Emo's, five scene luminaries will be on hand to rock in the new kid on the block along with a handful of DJs. Sound Team, indie-rock princes and one of Austin's biggest draws for years, headline the bill. Also on hand to pack 'em in are rock-dance-rockers The Lemurs, British transplants IV Thieves (remember when they killed at the Mohawk Austinist party?), and precocious piano-poppers Tacks, the Boy Disaster. DJ Rachel Goldstar, DJ Kidindie, and Cordial Squad will fill in the spaces. This is one onion that will not make you tear up. Unless it's with joy.

I pray that was tongue in cheek, Josh. either that, or you better have been asleep when writing it.
Durr....the Onion was print only for years. The website came along later.
