You know those kids in high school who made AP English bearable with some well-played Grendel jokes? The dudes you met at the GWAR show senior year who won UIL awards in Band? That funny girl in art class who was actually good at art (and wasn't there to make bongs out of driftwood)?
Local improv troupe Parallelogramophonograph are those guys.
Equal parts socially-observant geek and dry-witted freak, the Austin-based comedy troupe recently won Audience Favorite kudos in the Alamo's "Blanks on a Blank" video competition for their silent film "Tarantulas on a Hovercraft". This Thursday, they continue kicking out the jams by extending their successful run of their newest show --After School Improv-- at Coldtowne Theatre.
Described as "after school specials like you used to watch...only this time they are funny on purpose," Parallelogramophonograph creates an entire show based on a single audience suggestion. Using said suggestion, they create characters, scenes and a complete story of pubescent triumph on the spot. After four weeks, the show has garnered a steadily growing audience and favorable reviews from both fellow improvisers and audience members.
Local duo Get Up round out the set.
