Alamo Drafthouse: They Could Be Heroes

alamobanner.jpg

As if being named the Best Movie House in the Country by Entertainment Weekly was not enough, our friends over at the Alamo Drafthouse recently got some more national attention when they were name-dropped on NBC’s Heroes.

In case, like some of us, you've never seen "Heroes," it's a drama that features ordinary people who discover that they have superpowers. In the episode that aired on Monday the 27th,
Hiro, a male character from Tokyo who can bend time and space, goes back six months to Odessa, Texas to save a waitress who has the ability to remember everything.

In trying to save her from being killed, he says, "Hurry, there is a twenty-four hour Samurai Film Festival at the Drafthouse in Austin!"

Guess this just gives further evidence that, not only is that Drafthouse worth driving 300 miles to check out a movie, but watching movies at the Alamo Drafthouse could actually save your life.

See ya at the movies, Hiro...

Heros is a good show! It's too bad you aren't watching it. Ok, some of the acting can be, at times, a bit wooden - my boyfriend refers to the lead guy Peter Patrelli as "Keanu" - but so far the show has been entertaining.

The Diamond Smugglers were on Veronica Mars last night as well. Big Austin TV week..

I like the show, especially Hiro. I heard him mention the Drafthouse and forgot it after he zipped back to Japan instead of kissing the waitress.

So sad! I love my Hiro.

Two weeks ago on Ugly Betty there was a reference to UT. The Vanessa Williams character was trying to impress a stereotypical Texan, decorating her office with a big pair of longhorns. When the Texan asked if she went to UT, she played it off on her flamboyantly gay assistant, who said "Yee-haw!"

We.are.everywhere.

They also mentioned Oilcan Harry's on Veronica Mars this week.

Awesome! The Drafthouse is one of the reasons a little smugness creeps into my voice when I talk to friends in other parts of the country. Yeah, NYC has great museums, theater, and gets its movies a little earlier than we do, but we have the Drafthouse (a few of them, actually). I can live with that.

Hi! Why I can't fill my info in profile? Can somebody help me?
