It seems Gene Chizik has decided to cash in his chips and move to Ames, Iowa to coach the Iowa State Cyclones, the Des Moines Register is reporting. Iowa State representatives are set to make the announcement official at a 6pm press conference.
"We were challenged to get him," Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard said. "We were told we wouldn't be able to get him by a lot of people. He's the real deal."
Many expected Chizik to last only a season or two after being lured away from Auburn to come to Texas for some big bucks. We think had Chizik jumped ship after the national championship season, and on the heels of being the nation’s most highly touted assistant coach and part of back-to-back undefeated teams at Auburn (2004) and Texas (2005), the defensive mastermind could have landed a sweeter gig than being relegated to the frozen wasteland of Iowa State.
Texas suffered a national championship hangover this year, not helped by the loss of its greatest on-the-field leader in history, and the defense suffered a precipitous drop-off. While ranked 23rd in the nation in total defense, the Horns’ pass defense was atrocious, finishing 100th in the nation (out of 119).

Dude, I know that Ames is no Austin, but it's a nice little town and, thanks go global warming, frozen less than you might think. I don't think I'd call it a wasteland. Have you ever been there? Hopefully Chizik will be tough enough to handle a little winter.
yea, i knew that was coming. i've been to ames, nice little college town. just being inflammatory for the internet. or something. sorry. tired. all that said, chizik should have been able to land a much better gig. especially if he'd left last year
