Thanks, Beautiful
Mia Hamm doesn’t want to visit Waco, and we can’t really say we blame her. The North Carolina Tar Heel and world soccer legend recently declined induction in to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Sometime-Austinite Hamm and husband Nomar Garciaparra are expecting their first child in early spring, and the couple’s doctor advised any travel after January. Yea, sure that’s the reason.
Hamm would have been part of a Hall class that includes UT athletic director DeLoss Dodds, former OU (and current BBQ) great Billy Sims, legendary wife-beater quarterback Warren Moon, and that creepy old guy from Poltergeist II Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
"This is a first for us," said Steve Fallon, executive director of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. "We've never had anybody decline because they're pregnant. Her spokesman said she wants to be inducted very badly."
Hamm, who spent her adolescence in Wichita Falls, said she would be happy to accept the honor in 2008.
