The album has a few good songs, but overall I've found it to be a bit unsatisfying. Especially, if people are looking for Destroyer/New Pornographers, which I wasn't really, as there really aren't many songs in that vein, aside from the freedom song. To me it mostly sounds like Sunset Rubdown b-sides, although the "are you swimming in her pools" song is really solid, albeit kind of silly in how serious spencer krug seems to take himself with lyrics that don't seem to make all that much sense.

What is the Austin connection? Well, you're right, I suppose. It's not like we have a massive independent record store in town where Austin residents eagerly spend their money buying music from Canadian groups like Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, or, you know, Swan Lake. Nope. Nothing like that in Austin.

I love American's interpretations of the Canadian scene. (Maybe I shouldnt assume the writer isn't Canadian?) Just curious, what is the Austin connection to this?
