Turk Pipkin is a Texas original who has built a colorful and successful career as a writer, comedian, performer and actor. After appearing in dozens of productions and writing several books, Pipkin decided to focus his creative energies on an issue of global importance. Through his interviews with nine Nobel laureates, Pipkin’s documentary Nobelity, focuses on the most pressing problems in our world today and how we can attempt to leave the planet a better place for our children and grandchildren.
Nobelity premiered this year at SXSW and has since been screened around the country. The success of the film led Pipkin to develop The Nobelity Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the film’s message. An exciting arm of the project, the "Nobelity in Schools" program, has begun putting the DVD and the laureates' insights into thousands of classrooms across the U.S. The pilot programs at schools like Trinity in Westlake and Round Rock's Westwood High have had a tremendous impact on everyone involved. Last week, Westwood High's International Baccalaureate class presented The Nobelity Project with a $5,000 check for the Adopt a Minefield campaign, an incredible donation from just one local high school class.
Additionally, The Nobelity Project is announcing an extensive expansion of its web-streaming video library of Nobel laureates discussing critical issues ranging from global warming and global disparities to terrorism, war and peace.
To celebrate the success of the film and show his thanks for the wonderful homegrown support of the Austin community, Pipkin will be conducting three final theatrical screenings this Sunday, November 19, at the Arbor Cinema of Great Hills.
Tickets are available online and - if they don't sell out - at the door.
