Guest ColumnIST: The Laurie Show
The following is a weekly column by guest contributor Laurie Gallardo. Hear her Friday evenings on KUT 90.5FM, from 11pm-3am. -- The Editors
Hello again, kids! I’m not sure how you’ve been feeling as of late, but it seems time is flying by faster than I can read the clock. Must be all the shows that keep popping up, one right after the other. That spells goldmine for me.
First things first, ladies and gentlemen. I’d like to see you out at what promises to be a fashion and music extravaganza that I have the honor of hosting this year: Team Fabrication 4, tomorrow night at the Parish on 6th St. More fabulousness than you can shake a stick at, and featuring some fantastic music to party to: Loxsly, ’Til We’re Blue Or Destroy, and Clap! Clap! Lots more music on the turntables courtesy of Car Stereo Wars. Doors open at 9 p.m. My special thanks to go fashionistas JeNReA, Elf Girl and Tara Bouley for giving me the opportunity to host this special event.
Other shows on the checklist that are inspiring my playlist: Golden Bear at the Continental Club on South Congress tonight, with The Lemurs and The Glass Family; an early show this evening at the Mohawk on Red River, featuring Peel, The Unbearables, and Chin Up Chin Up; Cassette’s gig at the Red Eyed Fly on Red River tomorrow night; and Tacks, the Boy Disaster, with Scandinavian artist Frida Hyvönen and Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg at Emo’s Lounge tomorrow, as well. (Jonathan, your peeps at KUT salute you.)
I’d also like to take a moment to remind you that lovely songstress Caroline Casey will be playing at Trophy’s on South Congress Monday night. Get yourself out there and enjoy the wonderful combination of real country and heart breakin’ soul that Miss Casey has to offer. It’s the croon to make you swoon. Yeah, the gig’s on a school night, but so what? Give yourself a break!
And with that, I leave you, my Austin peeps, short but sweet. Make some time to join me late tonight, 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., on KUT 90.5, and www.kut.org to stream, for those of you out of the area. You know my parting remark – as RoboCop would say, thank you for your cooperation.
