365 Plays/Days: The Suzan-Lori Parks Festival Opens in Austin!

In 2002, Suzan-Lori Parks, one of America's most exciting modern playwrights, wrote a new play every single day. Sometimes a famous person would die, so she'd write a little play about them; then our country went to war, and Parks wrote some plays about that. "[It was] kind of like walking a pilgrimage on my knees," says Parks.

Now those plays are being performed all over the country, with Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis and more, all taking part in the largest theatrical collaboration in U.S. history.

It's only fitting that such an exciting celebration of new work would premiere in Austin. Tonight, on the Pfluger pedestrian bridge, join Suzan-Lori Parks, her producer Bonnie Metzgar and the Zach Scott Theatre (the company spearheading Austin's involvement in the festival), for a performance of seven mini-plays in 40 minutes or less, followed by a conversation with Parks, Metzgar and the audience about 365, or whatever else fits your fancy.

After the discussion, the party moves over the Zach, with food, drinks, and "one-on-one" time with the playwright.

Not only is it an incredible honor for Austin to kick-off this historic event, it's free, and they'll be serving drinks. Our recommendation? Drop whatever else you might be doing, and go.
