Just when you thought all the free dorkbot fun was over.... This weekend the fabulous playwrights at Austin Script Works are combining their annual Weekend Fling with, for the first time ever, a Dorkbot Challenge. What's a Weekend Fling-cum-Dorkbot Challenge? It's the creation of a 10-minute play or the prototyping a new dorkbot creation—in either case somehow incorporating three yet-to-be-revealed ingredients. This will make for a crazy weekend, culminating in some very interesting live entertainment that you can check out for free! Here's how it'll work:
Friday, November 17, the writers and inventors come together at happy hour, 6pm at Café Mundi, to learn the ingredients of the challenge. You're invited to join in the fun. Watch as the aspiring playwrights and contraption-creators respond to the thrown gauntlet with plenty of beer and contemplation.
~48 hours go by~
Sunday, November 19, the ASW members and area techno-artists arrive at the Vortex at 5:30pm to show-and-tell their creations. Playwrights bring copies of their script, and dorks bring prototypes of their interactive or kinetic art, machines, and robots. It's a free event, and an opportunity to check out what these creative folks can produce in a mere 48 hours.
In March 2007, Austin Script Works and Dorkbot-Austin will produce 8-10 of the short plays in a festival of new work called Out of Ink, which will also feature the inventions, potentially as set pieces or strange characters or installations.
Want to write or build something? Playwrights must be members of Austin Script Works to participate; new members can join here. Bot-makers need to register through Dorkbot, here.
