Austinist Giveaway: Peter and the Wolf, The Interest Kills at Mohawk

Land, ho! Peter and the Wolf, that great ghost ship of a band both ephemeral and ceaselessly transient, is coming ashore tonight at the Mohawk. There has been much chatter in the musical grapevine regarding lead singer Red Hunter's penchant for choosing odd locales where he can present his music; luckily, for those of you afraid of cemeteries and canoe-less, a show at the Mohawk presents a chance to catch our most prominent bard in a more conventional setting. Touring in support of his recent LP, the critically acclaimed Lightness, Red and friends are known for their peculiar, yet invariably impressive sonic pallet. On stage, they are blurry black and white portraits of musicians tiptoeing across the warped wooden floors of your attic, whispering timeworn stories. Be careful, though: P&W won't hesitate to take a leaf blower to those dusty corners with his wrenching nostalgia. Like troubadours of yore, Mr. Hunter has forsaken a sedentary existence to tour full-time, so it will most likely be increasingly difficult to witness one of Austin's most treasured and pious brethren. Don't say we didn't warn you.
Supporting the aforementioned is The Interest Kills, a superlative Austin rock band. Operating on the trickle-down theory of live music (they play up on a stage, the music trickles down onto your head), this four-piece has built up quite a buzz around these parts with their sterling repertoire. Deceptively accessible yet diverse, you'll be surprised at how much territory they traverse in one set. Don't forget to pick up a copy of their recently released album, Capital Flight.
