Unleash Your Inner-Boitano

boitano13.jpgFollowing the huge outpouring of positive response from their winter wonderland experience of a year ago, Whole Foods is bringing back their ice rink this holiday season. We told you about the Rockefeller Center-esque set-up last year, and this year it will be more of the same. Ten dollars gets you on the ice for a 45-minute session between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. The rink will be open from November 22nd through January 5th. In addition to ice skating, the area will also feature holiday music and a variety of cold-weather concessions like coffee and hot chocolate.

"There was such enthusiastic demand to bring back the ice skating rink for this holiday season that we just couldn’t resist. We’re so pleased that Austin embraced the experience last year and it’s our pleasure to create something so unique and memorable for our guests and the entire community," said John Marsh, store team leader for Whole Foods Market. “We invite Austin to enjoy this special holiday activity that will also benefit a wonderful children’s organization (Austin Children's Shelter).”

So, throw on those shorts your favorite scarf and t-shirt sweater and head down to Whole Foods. It's brrrfect for a date or a day with the family.

Did you go last year? How was your experience?

Has anyone pointed out the gross inefficiencies of cooling a large block of ice in the middle of Texas? How much electricity will be wasted on this? News flash: Texas is not NYC -- usually, the weather is not cold enough for water to freeze here.

wow dadgum. you are this seasons first humbug stick in the ice. do you sit and fart on your kids for christmas instead of giving gifts?

Last year the ice was very rugged and rather hard to actually skate on. It was more like an Ice "Scoot" rink. Don't expect much but crowds of snotty teenagers and adults falling on their asses.
-call me humbug stick #2

It's a great idea and great location/view. But the corner of the deck that they set the rink up on is just too small. It's like ice skating in your bathtub with 25 children.

I've seen frozen mud puddles with more skating surface than that place. besides, it wasn't really ice, it looked more like a cone of shaved ice was spilled when I saw it.
