Music Mondays Presents: Let Them Eat Rock
Tonight, Alamo Music Mondays presents Let Them Eat Rock, Rodman Flender’s (Idle Hands, Leprechaun 2) documentary look at the supremely bizarre career of Boston aristo-rockers The Upper Crust.
Formed in 1994 from bits of various Boston indie bands (including Lyres, Bags, Mente and Clamdiggers), The Upper Crust play AC/DC-meets-Spinal Tap rock about the trials and tribulations of being obscenely rich. Their live shows--featuring the band dressed in full 18th century nobleman’s garb--became wildly popular in Boston and New York during the mid 90s, and in their 12 year existence the band has appeared on Conan O’Brien, been featured in Vogue and Mojo, performed at SXSW, and been the target of a full-on FBI investigation (apparently, songs like We're Finished With Finishing School, I've Got My Ascot 'N' My Dickie and Once More Into The Breeches seemed like a serious threat to national security--pre 9/11, mind you).
Director Rodman Flender will be on hand to introduce the screening and to answer questions, and admission is free to anyone refined enough to dress in full 18th century garb. Seriously.
