Hurts So Good

*Exploitation alert*

But, daddy, who will protect us from the sodomites now?

Apparently Rick Santorum had to concede so early that his kids didn’t even get to stay up past their bedtimes. Shucks.

In his report in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, James O’Toole discusses Democratic State Treasurer Bob Casey’s victory over the much maligned Rick Santorum. Hopefully the soon-to-be-former senator’s kids pictured above in the amazing photograph by the Post-Gazette's Robin Rombach, will not be scarred for life. But with Santorum, whose name was made legend by Savage Love columnist Dan Savage, as their father, we doubt that.

And to clarify, we're not piling on the kids here. We just think it is an amazing and telling photograph that speaks to the complicated and disturbing nature of politics.

The scariest thing I ever read about Santorum was the NYT magazine piece where they talked about how he and his wife took home their stillborn baby from the hospital, slept in bed with it overnite, then introduced it to the kids in the morning. Every time I see him I think of that. Aaagghhhhh!!!!

    It would help what?

It might help (you) to have a fucking life. But that's nit-picking, isn't it?

I say you make Austinist pay you back for all of the money you've paid to read the site and for your hard-earned time wasted reading typos. Who do these kids think they are anyways? You tell em, Kevin Walsh. Doucehbag. Did i spell that correctly?

  • Kevin Walsh

It would help if you could spell sodomites.

this made me very happy when I got a call about this on tuesday night @ my polling place

Yes, apv! The more I look at this photo (I just can't stop sneaking a peek...it cheers me so), the more I think the son's expression is the best thing about it.

  • sean

she looks like a drama queen. and his wife? about as inviting as a masoleum.

it was pleasant watching his concession speech; definitely a highlight of my evening.

  • sammy

The girl in the back is stoooooned.

  • apv

Take a look again, everyone is missing the best part of the photo...based on the son's reaction, I think someone might be flashing his little sister

  • odam

yea, me and my republican talking points. you got me. dang it!

  • Lambo

Odam. Haven't you heard of Pelosi's first 100 hours agenda?

That's a plan. Perhaps you should look into it before you spout off with Repugnican talking points. Seriously, you have a responsibility to be informed and thus inform us. This blog is usually pretty good at doing so.

And given the absolute fuckup of "conservative" governance that Bush & Co. have shown us lately, simpy being not them is adequate as a plan. Corruption, increased government spending, wasted taxpayer money in Iraq (not to mention the "war" itself), cronyism, the list goes on and on.

At least Reagan could pretend to, or actually, not remember

the illegalities of Iran/Contra. And remember, he cut and ran in Beirut.

Obama's middle name is Hussein. I wonder how long the GOP are going to sit on that one. I can see the commercial now: Barack Hussein Osama.

  • odam

yea, can you imagine how sweet it would be if the democrats had an actual plan or vision or strong leadership and a cohesive message? we'd be unstoppable.

"...just be happy that he lost and let it go."

    Nice try, but no.

I am devouring every slice of news that mentions anything about the Republicans' pathetic dismatling. This is pure heaven.

  • The photo is so good it looks staged. When it first popped up, I thought just a second or two it was a movie still -- from a new Christopher Guest project, or some such.

And yes, the doll's dress matches the little girl's, but her *hair* matches Mommy's. Of course.

  • Charles

Oh,that picture is just mean-it sucks that he put his kids out there in front in the first place, but what do his kids have to do with this? It *is* piling it on-just be happy that he lost and let it go.

  • Edward

God told Rick Perry that anyone who thinks that picture is funny is going to Hell.

  • Wow. That photo... might illuminate what is WRONG with our country right now. See how the prune-faced girl's dress matches her doll's?

Oh. Oh my. Oh f*ck no they didn't.

  • His daughter's dress is straight out of Little House on the Prairie, maybe that's contributing to her sadness.

  • agreed.

    this picture deserves a pulitzer.
