Austinist Giveaway: Stitch 2006 at Austin Music Hall, This Saturday
An annual showcase and celebration of all things DIY, the Stitch Fashion Show and Guerrilla Craft Bazaar returns for its fourth installment this Saturday with an even bigger and better lineup.
Back in 2003, local designers Jesse Kelly-Landes (Amet and Sasha), Tina Sparkles (Sparkle Craft), Karly Hand (Identity Crisis Clothing) and Jennifer Perkins (Naughty Secretary Club), dismayed that Austin lacked an effective outlet for independent designers to exhibit their work, orchestrated one of the city's first community-oriented, grassroots fashion shows. The relatively modest event (600 attendees, 25 vendors, 9 runway designers) proved to be a tremendous success; thus was born the annual Stitch spectacle.
The shortlist for Stitch 2006:
- 75 Craft Fair Booths (Tramp Lamps, Coco Couture, Ramonsterwear, Slinky Whistle Bait, Harrilu, Machine Ballerina)
- 20 Runway Designers (Parts & Labour, Tina Sparkles, Hot Pink Pistol, A Rare Bird Designs, Naughty Secretary Club)
- Music by Irving and +/-
- DJ Sets by DJ Mel, DJ Jennifer (earcandy), and Bigface
- Dance Performance by The Super Sonic Soul Squad
