OMG...O.M.G!

Overheard at Austin High:

Like, holy crap, guys. OMG! LYLAS! Listen up! Jenny told Tommy that Marcy told Lucy that Genie let Sally read Susie Tanner’s notebook, in which it is totally written that some kids in the cafeteria are performing High School Musical and that Will Andastaphonopolus is big time G-A-Y.

G…A…whoa. Wait. What? Did you say High School Musical?

Fer sure, biz-natch. Totally fer sure. I’ve already friend-requested the show on Myspace.

Yes, dear Austinist readers, it’s totally for def, Austin High School is performing the zany, Disney-produced, made-for-TV movie about high school musicals…High School Musical. And yes, because we think that a) said musical was the dumbest thing ever on television, and b) it will be freakin’ amazing when performed live by a bunch of real, honest-to-goodness high school students, it’s out Austinist Pick of the Week. Come on, your irony-loving inner hipster is just begging you to check it out. Shows are Thu, Fri and Sat at 8pm, Sun at 2pm at Austin High School (1715 W. Cesar Chavez). Call 512-414-2505 for tickets.

Just in case you can’t stand, or aren’t allowed to be around, high school kids, there’s also A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, one of those Sondheim romantic-comedy musicals, over at ACC [223-3245 for tickets]; I Can’t Stop Loving You: The Music of Ray Charles, an all-singing, all-dancing, great big ‘ol touring show in town at the Paramount Theatre [more info]; Night of Magic, a magic show by some guy who’s apparently a very big deal, over at One World Theatre [more info]; and Plaid Tidings, the Christmas-tastic sequel to Forever Plaid, running from now until the new year at Zach Scott Theatre [more info].

Also of note, due to an actor illness, Loaded Gun Theory's Bitten! A Zombie Rock Odyssey will not be performing tonight and tomorrow at Arts On Real. The company is hopeful for Sunday’s 5pm performance, is adding an additional performance on November 8th, and will still perform November 9th thru 11th as planned.

For all else, check out last week’s TWIT.
