Libertarian Candidate for State Senate Not So Smart

stupid.jpgPhil Smart entered a Waxahachie bank in 2004, pulled a knife on bank employees, then put the knife on his own wrist and asked the employees if they wanted to be “blood brothers.”

Probably not the best way to kick off your run for State Senate.

The CPA from Palmer--initially charged with felony aggravated assault which was then lowered to misdemeanor assault--received two years of deferred adjudication for his freak-out, which occurred during a previous run for Ellis County commissioner. The ironically-named Smart missed some critical campaign time recently as he was jailed for violating his probation after police arrested him for running a stop sign and possessing dangerous drugs. As opposed to harmless drugs?

Smart is running for Sen. Kip Averitt’s (R-McGregor) seat which includes liberal hotbed Waco. Not surprisingly, no Democrat is running.

By all accounts--ok, at least this one by a Libertarian blog that thinks Texas is out to get Mr. Smart--the accountant from the Dallas area is a good dude who has been the target of some good ol fashion harassment. Okaaay. Good luck Tuesday, Phil. East Texans are a forgiving people; you'll probably do just fine.

The idea of Libertarianism itself isn't necssarily crazy, but for some reason all of the Libertarian candidates always are.
