Austinist Preview and Giveaway: Rock n' Roll DIA at La Zona Rosa

Dia de los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead, has been steeped in Mexican tradition since the Aztecs initiated a celebration of departed ancestors. It might not be Halloween but it’s still a gala, and ME Television wants to make it a party. Powered by VJ Paul Saucido, METV's Sonido Boombox has become a vital voice in Latin music circles in Austin. La Zona Rosa will host Sonido Boombox’s latest benefit (titled “Rock n’ Roll DIA”), with proceeds going to the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC), Austin Latin Music Association (ALMA), and The Austin Public Library Foundation.

Kicking off the event will be Mexican and Latin American short film screenings courtesy of Cine Las Americas. Mexico’s Jumbo headlines a strong field of local and international musical talent. Supporting them is the Latin fused pop-rock of Maneja Beto and the multi-instrumental panache of Ghandaia. Other acts confirmed to appear include Brownout and Hayden Vitera with Calavera. Oh, and the favored symbol for the day is the skull.

We are giving away a pair of tickets to the Dia de los Muertos festivities at La Zona Rosa. Enter your information below for a chance to win.

Congratulations to Austinist reader Kristi, winner of the tickets to METV's Sonido Boombox.
