Have you checked out Single Frame's "John Carpenter Halloween Remix" yet? Head over to their site, dig around 'till you find their mp3s, and grab it - then play it loudly for your friend's children. Here's what else is worth mentioning this week in the way of new releases:
A Cloud Mireya Singular (Eastern Developments)
Though half of A Cloud Mireya is Scott Herren, the mastermind behind Prefuse 73 and Piano Overlord, fans of those albums might not cozy to his most recent offering with Claudia Deheza, whom you might know from the Ritalin-Deficient In Terms of Proper Nouns On!Air!Library!. An absorbing, catatonic atmosphere pervades the album, and though we can't deny its beauty, we find ourselves hoping Deheza might fall asleep so Herren can sneak us some samples of the next Prefuse project. Given Herren's skills as a composer, however, the album as a whole still manages to float high above its neighbors, though it would have been perfectly acceptable to release as a 5 song EP, dropping off the dangerously Clannad-ish songs with Jewel and re-considering Deheza's over-processed vocals. It sounds like we don't like it. That's not true.

Isis In the Absence of Truth (Ipecac)
The post-rock (you thought we were going to say "metal", didn't you?) group Isis is sort of the Decemberists for those of us who still cry watching old Fugazi sets on YouTube and keep hoping Shiner will reunite. They don't do concepts half-assed, figurehead Aaron Turner claims Don Quixote and Hassan-i-Sabbah as influences, and purposeful self-seriousness inflate this album just like we'd expect it to. The results are impressive, and we appreciate the effort, since there are far too few albums being released these days that actually feel like a whole.

Eliot Lipp Steele Street Scraps EP (Hefty)
Synth-funk instrumental music influenced by hip-hop beats and all the good things about electronic music, this EP is a sweet 30 minutes worth of badassery you've come to know and love from Hefty. For fans of The Knife, Scott Matelic, RJD2, and MSTRKRFT.

Adrian Klumpes Be Still (Leaf)
We love Leaf. Not only do we get a gorgeous new release from Colleen this year, Triosk keyboardist Adrian Klumpes has put together a brilliant collection of songs. The album features music that is fairly described as minimalist, despite its rich texture and absorbing mood. The tracks were recorded in a single 5 hour session in one room, using the same mics and piano. In this way, Be Still is an experiment as well as a premeditated collection of deliberate compositions. For fans of Triosk, Larsen, Colleen, and Brian Eno.

Animal Collective Hollinndagain (2001 Reissue) (Paw Tracks)
This reissue is long overdue for fans of the collective, but probably not a good introduction to AC for newcomers. The album is a live recording (their strongest situation), and might be a good aural Freak Folk 101, if you can tolerate that kind of jargon. For fans of Avey Tare, Akron/Family, Devendra Banhart.
Malajube Trompe-L'oeil (Dare to Care)
Well, Pitchfork ejaculated all over it, so we were curious. Turns out it's actually pretty gosh-darn incredible. In some French alternate universe, Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene had a baby, and named it Malajube. And the Lord looked down on it, and it was good. For fans of BSS, Arcade Fire and M83.
