BREAKING NEWS: Possible Bomb Threat in Clarksville Fizzles Out

Just hours after a bunch of road flares were mistaken for dynamite in Williamson County, authorities have converged upon 10th and West Lynn, where a suspicious package is sitting in a car. From reader Matt:

[2:08pm]

There is either a giant donut being cooked up over at the Galaxy Cafe on West Lynn, or something all the more serious. I counted eight squad cars, a hazmat truck, the bomb squad outfitted and ready to go with disposal trailer, among other unmarked vehicles.

Maybe a Clarksville mom has decided to cook up something other than tonight's dinner.

[3:10pm]

Just announced evacuation of a 6 blocks radius around the intersection of 10th and west lynn, suspicious package in vehicle, bomb robot on the scene. Only two blocks from elementary school.

[3:41pm]

KVUE, live at the scene, is reporting that, earlier today, a man was seen lurking about Mathews Elementary (9th and West Lynn), "saying he wanted to look around." After freaking out school administrators, he was detained by police officers and then ordered "not to return to any AISD campus." Right now, authories are unable to find the man, but evidently it's his vehicle at the center of this fiasco.

[4:30pm]

Nothin doin! Seems like the police have packed up and moved out. Austinist staffer Patrick Dentler pointed out this flyer for a Mathews Elementary party from two weeks ago:

Oh, dear.

    everything is gone now.

I live nearby and walked over to see if I'd missed the evacuation order. There are people dining on the patio of Galaxy Cafe, so the police must not be too concerned for their safety.
