Looking for some extracurricular, non-Barack Obama-related Texas Book Festival fun? The Gallery at the Continental Club will be hosting The Lolita Update: The Romantic Devastations of Youth in Fiction on Saturday night at 8:00pm. Mark Binelli, Rolling Stone contributing editor and author of Sacco and Vanzetti Must Die!, will be opening with a vaudevillian skit involving anarchists and knives.
The evening’s centerpiece is a panel discussion concerning young love, adolescence, and fiery loins. The panel features authors Mark Z. Danielewski (Only Revolutions), Cristina Henríquez (Come Together, Fall Apart: A Novella and Stories), Heidi Julavits (The Uses of Enchantment) and Marisha Pessl (Special Topics in Calamity Physics). The discussion will be moderated by freelance writer Sarah Hepola. As literary panel discussions go, it doesn’t get much fresher than this one.
Ping-pong is upstairs and music will be furnished by Mike Flanigin’s b-3 Trio at 11:00pm. Listening to hot, young authors talk about hot, young love? Hot. Getting sweaty playing ping-pong afterwards? Very hot.
