We know...it's a strange question. The Rude Mechanicals, kings and queens of strange done with quality and flair, open Rebecca Beegle's Have You Been Assassinated tonight at 8pm. Directed by Carlos Trevino—the man who helmed such delights as Not Clown and The Kinderman Depiction—Have You Ever Been Assassinated looks odd and intriguing. We got our hands on a few advance copies of some press photos, so we thought we'd share 'em with you.
The show features "Jimmy Cagney and a chorus line of all-American racisms." Though we're not sure exactly what that means, we've heard rumblings about traditional vaudeville acts, clowning, and plenty of funny business. With several of the Rude's usual characters on board, the cast and crew of this "old-fashioned/new-fangled song-and-dance on the death of vaudeville" sports some impressive chops. In particular, we noticed that Graham Reynolds has spun up some music for your delight. Whenever Reynolds lends his talented ear to a production, it's always just that much better.
Other Rude Mechs comments on the work: "Vaudeville in its death throes is the new Rude Mechs experiment. Is your shtick up to snuff? America says 'Entertain or die' and you oblige. You’ve worked all your life to perfect your twelve minutes of material. Maybe tonight's the night you finally bring down the house." No pressure there! We'll be checking it out. How about you?
