Tonight: Just For Kicks At Alamo Downtown For FREE!
If you are anything like us, then you have shoes on your feet. And you’re behind on your manscaping because you’ve been getting up too late to handle that business so your girl’s been giving you the stink eye as of late but shit, a man’s got priorities in life and sometimes the details get lost in the big picture woman! It can't all be done! All the time!
But this is about the shoes. Specifically: dude shoes. Even more specific: tennis shoes, or ‘kicks’ (that’s what you call them when you want to appear as if you know some urban on-the-hype-tip type shit), as a point of individual lifestyle and ever-present touchstone for hip hop culture.
Tonight at The Alamo Drafthouse DOWNTOWN, Scion is hosting a viewing of Just For Kicks, a documentary on what are not-so-commonly referred to as ‘kick heads’: arguably crazy people who are absolutely overwhelmed by their obsessive need to amass an infinite supply of shoes for their finite pair of feet.
Which is both perfectly reasonable, and an apparent source of curiosity for documentary film makers.
Honestly, anything involving the Cold Crush Brothers is better than eating hand grenades. So there’s that. And hopefully Raekwon’s portion of this film will help to assuage our collective fear that he is, indeed, mentally retarded. However, probability says that it is more likely he will simply promote that fear. He's a chef, you know. He cooks rhymes. You eat those rhymes. Delicious.
Plus, we heard that DJ Mel will be manning the decks beforehand to help ease your explosive excitement surrounding shoes that are handmade by blind, one-armed Malaysian children. Actually, that's misleading. We have no idea how many arms they have.
We’re totally screwing you on the lead-time for this, but you only have until 6pm to RSVP for this free showing. So get your crew together and be at the theatre EARLY. These things ALWAYS overbook so just because you done RSVP’d don’t mean a dayumn thang. Get there early and get in line.
