Austinist Comedy: New Theatre Appears on Near Horizon

coldtownecrop.jpgAfter a little over a year in town, Austin's hardest-working improv troupe has not only been voted a Best of Austin 2006 pick, but also achieved a feat virtually unheard of in such a short period: opening their own theatre space. After the success of this summer's Test Pattern—a week-long series to test potential programming at the new theatre—Coldtowne will officially kick-off full operation of the Coldtowne Theatre this Saturday, October 28th.

The 30-seat, black box theatre is located behind I Luv Video on Airport Blvd., and will initially offer five nights of stand-up, sketch and improv programming with comedians from around the city. Beginning in early 2007, Coldtowne plans to program shows seven nights a week, expanding to include a greater emphasis on video-based comedy performance and to welcome the return of the much-beloved No Shame Theatre (formerly hosted by SVT's Shannon McCormick).

After attending last week's soft opening of the theatre space, getting crap-faced on free beer, and bitting out with both performers and audience from Austin's alt-comedy crowd, Austinist looks forward to welcoming this new performance space into the fray.

I wonder how this will affect the Hideout Theater? I wonder if there will still be improv there. In any case, more comedy is a good thing and it is definitely needed to stay sane in this world. :)

>I wonder how this will affect the Hideout Theater? I wonder if there will still be improv there.

oh, fer sure.

the hideout is still going strong. as a matter of fact there is/will be a large amount of overlap between performers at both theatres.

hot stuffs.

Soon, soon, my growing army of evil clones will force both the Hideout and ColdTowne Theater, simultaneously, to Standing Room Only situations into which not a single 'nother audience member can be shoehorned! Yes! Ha-HA! And then they'll be sorry, those kids back in junior high, that they laughed at my magnificently handcrafted model of the solar system during ninth-grade Science Fair! Then they'll rue the very day that their mothers ejected them, mucous-covered, from the maternal uterus and into this bleak, uncaring world that I (and my growing army of evil clones, aforementioned) will soon rule with an iron fist!

(Or, if not with Iron Fist in particular, perhaps with the assistance of Luke Cage, instead ... or, if necessary ~ like if Cage is busy with his urban revitalization project in Harlem? You know, where they have those veggie gardens on the rooftops? ~ then with that guy who used to be Tony Stark's roommate in college. You know the guy I mean, with the unibrow and that scar down his left cheek? What the fuck was his name? Desmond? Dimmesdale? Something with a D ...)

In any case: Muah ha ha!

MUAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
