Better Know a Proposition: Prop. Two

bartoncreekcrop.jpg

Continuing our look at the bonds up for vote in this election cycle. . .

Proposition Two in ballot lingo:

“The issuance of $145,000,000 in tax supported General Obligation Bonds and Notes for designing, constructing, and installing improvements and facilities for flood control, erosion control, water quality, and stormwater drainage, and acquiring land, open spaces, and interests in land and property necessary to do so, including, without limitation, acquisition of land including fee title and easements in the Barton Springs contributing and recharge zones to provide for the conservation of the region’s water quality; and the levy of a tax sufficient to pay for the bonds and notes.”

$145 million is a good chunk of money, but a lot of people would argue that our water quality is worth it. Save Our Springs likes this proposition because it protects undeveloped land in the Barton Springs watershed [News8]. The money in this bond would also go towards flood control and water quality projects for the Boggy Creek area.

While driving through the Shoal Creek area this weekend we saw many signs saying to vote for Prop. 2; this neighborhood would benefit from the bond by receiving improvements in the storm drain system (to help stem localized flooding).
