Austinist Heads To New York For CMJ Shenanigans

In a little over a week, we're heading up to New York City for CMJ, South by Southwest Music's almost-as-hip cousin. We're skipping most of the official stuff, but we'll be throwing an afterparty in Brooklyn on the day after Halloween—right smack on Día de los Muertos.

Last month, those of us at Awesome Inc—a New York/Austin collective including Austinist, Super!Alright!, Finger on the Pulse, Learning Secrets, Car Stereo (Wars), and Sparrowhead—teamed up with imeem to hold a contest wherein a lucky unsigned band would be asked to open at our party, and for the likes of Thunderbirds Are Now!, Lo Fi Fnk, The Harlem Shakes, CSS, and more. We're pleased to announce our contest winner: Apes and Androids, a "robotic rock opera-tastic" bunch from Gotham City itself.

If you happen to be CMJ-bound as well, RSVP for the party below:

Meanwhile, back in Austin, check out a few pre-CMJ events this week featuring DJ Terry Diabolik, Austinist's soul-spinning friend from NYC's Finger on the Pulse:

  • Wednesday: Cut Club at The Mohawk with Learning Secrets and The Young Professionals, featuring special guest DJ Terry Diabolik
  • Thursday: Learning Secrets at Whisky Bar Special Awesome Inc. CMJ Launch Party with DJ Terry Diabolik and Cry Blood Apache

Remember Awesome Inc. at SXSW 2006? It looked a little like this:
