ColumnIST: The Laurie Show
The following is a column by guest contributor Laurie Gallardo. Hear her on KUT 90.5FM Friday evenings, 11pm-3am. -- The Editors
Howdy there, kiddoes. Sorry
I’ve been a tad MIA as of late. In between finishing the Tom Waits
Peepshow and being slightly under the weather, I failed to get a
column in the last time to our fair Austinist. But fear not! The music
doesn’t stop! I’m preparing for tonight right this very moment.
Even though my health wasn’t
one hundred percent this week, I still mustered enough spirit on Monday
night to attend the IV Thieves CD release party at Habana on
6th St. Kids, take it from me: The new album does not
disappoint! You can bet I’ll be featuring a track from “If We Can’t
Escape, My Pretty” on tonight’s show. (For the record: I keep giving
Jay Trachtenberg here at KUT a tough time for accidentally referring
to the boys as the “I. V. [eye-vee] Thieves.” Hee hee.)
Another band that’s been
putting hearts in my eyes is The Faceless Werewolves.
They aren’t afraid to rock. I think that about summarizes it, don’t
you? Their album, “Medium Freaky,” delivers an addictive sound.
Bring it on, I say.
Speaking of hearts…make way
for The Dirty Hearts. They’ll be having their CD release party
at Trophy’s on South Congress tomorrow night, with Cassette,
Manager’s Choice and The Noise Revival sharing the bill.
A big thank you to the Dirty Hearts, by the way, for mailing their CD
to me – expect to hear them on the show tonight as well.
More on the way from Tammany
Hall Machine, Rachel Goldstar, For Those Who Know
and The Dolly Partners, to name but a few of the local peeps
whose talent I enjoy highlighting on my humble show.
By the way: KUT 90.5
is in the midst of its 2006 Fall Fundraiser. I need your support!
Do you dig what you’re hearing? Do you want Before the Break
on the KUT website to continue providing stories about all the great
local musical talent we have here in Central Texas? Do you want to hear
more from local artists? Then it’s time to get serious.
I’ll be repeating this phone
number throughout the night: 471-6291. Learn it. Know it. Call
in and pledge your support, and let the KUT peeps know what you’re
interested in. Tell them I sent you, for crying out loud! And please,
don’t feel badly if you can only donate a lot. Every little bit counts.
Help me keep Before the Break going, and help keep my Friday night show
on the air. I can’t play these local artists without your support.
Remember, 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.
tonight. Every Friday night. KUT 90.5 FM. As RoboCop would say: Thank
you for your cooperation.
