Bill Moyers and Net Neutrality

mobynncrop.jpg

If you haven't been watching Moyers on America on PBS, you're missing out. Last week's episode on Evangelicals and the environment was both disturbing and refreshing at the same time. This week's episode focuses on net neutrality, whether corporations should charge us for the internet, media ownership, etc. If the government passes a bill giving corporations (such as AT&T) the right to regulate the speed at which sites are accessed, then what's to stop them from completely blocking sites? How will this affect the future of journalism? As Bill Moyers said in a chat we participated in last week, "You can prevent the will of the people being expressed legislatively." In the end it seems to come down to the little people versus large corporate entities (how Capraesque).

We've barely scratched the surface of the issue here; there is more information at the show's site, including glossaries, a "citizen's class", and relevant links. We plan to watch the show tomorrow night, but we do wish it wasn't up against the Project Runway season finale.
