Whoa. That's a Lot...

Theatre fans aren’t hurtin’ for stuff to do this week. So let the good times roll, people. Let ‘em roll theatre-style.

Put your hands together for our Austinist Pick of the Week, Free Night of Theatre! Not just one, but like a bazillion completely free shows in Austin, and across the nation. (That’s right, jetsetter – even if you’re out of town, it’s no worries, because the metro area you’re closest to is probably doin’ their own free night!) Technically, as this event takes place on Thursday, it should go in next week’s TWIT, but you need to get your ass in gear to get tickets now. For real. People like free stuff. People like theatre. Put the two together and their respective popularities are multiplied exponentially. Get all the info and find out what shows are still available (for free!) at the Free Night of Theatre website.

Oh wait, but that’s not all. This weekend you can catch the world premiere of Caridad Svich’s Thrush from your buddies at Salvage Vanguard Theatre. It’s the first performance ever in SVT’s new warehouse space, and the first SVT show we’ve ever heard of that’s not directed by Artistic Director Jason Neulander. Yes, while he’s galavanting around the country with the Intergalactic Nemesis tour, Associate Artistic Director Jenny Larson will be taking the reigns. Find out more!

Also poppin’ up new in town this week is Katrina: The Girl Who Wanted Her Name Back, a story about New Orleans, a hurricane, and a lost girl named Katrina, by Jason Tremblay (we, ahem, directed said production); The Night Hank Williams Died, another small-town Texas tale from Larry L. King at the Austin Playhouse; Hamlet, performed at the B. Iden Payne Theatre by honest-to-goodness English acting professionals (477.6060 for more info); Blue Man Group – yes, the Blue Man Group, like from the commercials – at the Frank Erwin Center this Sunday at 7:30pm; Ain’t No Joy In Pain from Majesty Productions at the Boyd Vance Theatre (Saturday only); Women On Fire, on tour and in town at the Paramount Theatre; and Girls Girls Girls, some funny ass improv that we already talked about this week.

For everything else, there’s last week’s TWIT.
