As if the folks at Salvage Vanguard Theater didn't have enough going on.... In the midst of touring The Intergalactic Nemesis, winning a Best of Austin award, and birthin' babies, the intrepid SVTers are also producing the world premiere of Caridad Svich's Thrush: A Play with Songs, opening tonight at 8pm. Earlier this week, our own Matt Wright snapped a few photos of rehearsals.

Helmed by Jenny Larson in her mainstage directorial debut, Thrush features music by Adam Sultan and an all-star cast including Sultan, Kathy Catmull, Jude Hickey, Gina Houston, Jason Newman, Mark Stewart, and Elizabeth Wakehouse. It's also the debut of SVT's new warehouse space at 2803 Manor Road.

Thrush is takes place in "a war-ravaged country complete with images ripped from our present day news broadcasts. It's dark. It's sad. It's scary. But then it's happy. There's a love story. There's humor.... Oh, and original music and a dance number or two is thrown in for good measure." So check out this tale of "refugees and their journey through destruction, deceit, broken expectations and revelation of inner strength and beauty."
Thrush: A Play with Songs

beautiful photos, matt
Thanks for the writeup. Small correction. We got TWO "Best of Austins". Lee Eddy, of course, and also our resident composer Graham Reynolds. Woo hoo!
Ahhh, yes! I *did* see that Graham's work was lauded, but overlooked it for this post. Believe me, I'm a fan:

Mea culpa, and big congrats to both fine artists!
