Austinist Preview & Giveaway: The Lemurs and The Lord Henry at Emo's
When most people think of lemurs, cuddly ring-tailed animals usually come to mind, and not, say, an enterprising Austin band as equally fitting on a bill with The Smiths as with Bloc Party. The word lemur actually means "spirit of the night," and like a spirit in the night, local favs The Lemurs are going to sneak their infectious melodies into your brain this Saturday at Emo's to celebrate their CD release. Drawing on influences as disparate as The Cure, The Clash, The Pixies, Pink Floyd, and Television, The Lemurs bring a special brand of sometimes danceable, always up-tempo rock that sticks with you like a ghost who's afraid of the dark.
They'll be joined by The Lord Henry, who are also celebrating a CD release as the toe-tapping and head-noddingly catchy Zoo Palace finally becomes available to the everyman (10/17). Rounding out the evening's line-up are Clap! Clap! and Loxsly, no slouches themselves when it comes to inspiring a booty-shake or heel-twist.
