Wilco Concert and DVD News
Wilco’s not trying to break your heart by skipping Austin on this tour, they’re just trying to focus on some of the towns they rarely get a chance to visit. Fortunately for us, one of those towns is our neighbor to the south, San Antonio.
So, why not jump in the car and head down to Sunset Station in the Alamo City tomorrow night to check out one of America’s finest bands? Hell, grab some late night tacos at Mi Tierra, wash em down with a beer or six at Bar America, pass out on the Riverwalk and make a mini-road trip out of it.
If you can’t make it down to SA, or just can’t get enough of Mr. Tweedy, fear not. Nonesuch will be releasing the film Sunken Treasure: Jeff Tweedy Live in the Pacific Northwest on October 24th. The DVD features performances and conversations gathered over five nights on Tweedy’s February 2006 solo acoustic tour, with footage from concerts at Seattle’s Moore Theater, Portland’s Crystal Ballroom, Eugene’s McDonald Theater, Arcata’s Humboldt State University, and The Fillmore in San Francisco. The film was directed by Christoph Green and Fugazi’s Brendan Canty, the creators of the documentary series Burn to Shine.
The audio tracks of all the songs featured on the DVD also will be available for anyone who purchases Sunken Treasure to download for free. This continues Wilco’s own tradition of regularly giving music to its fans via the Internet.
Check out the trailer of Sunken Treasure here. Wanna get ahead of the curve? Pre-order the DVD here. You can also have a look and take a listen to the unreleased Wilco tune The Thanks I Get here.
The Altered Statesman out of Nashville opens. We are not familiar with their work, but have heard good things. And considering Wilco hand-selects their support acts, you will probably want to check out these up-and-comers. Not a bad gig for a band that doesn't even have a MySpace page.
