Texas Culinary Academy, Central Market, Slow Food Austin Present Mediterranean Fest 2006

If you're in the mood for free olive and olive oil tastings, demonstrations by local chefs, and a reason to eat rich food and drink good wines in the middle of the day, Texas Culinary Academy, Central Market and Slowfood Austin will host Austin's first Mediterranean Festival this Saturday from Noon-4pm at the Texas Culinary Academy campus.

Joyce Goldstein, James Beard Award-winning author and chef, will present a free lecture on Mediterranean cooking from noon-pm1 in the TCA demo kitchen followed by a book-signing from 1-2pm. At 1:30pm, Emmett Fox, Chef of Asti and Fino restaurants, will present a free lecture on Italian tapas.

Every half hour from noon-3pm, TCA instructors will present $8 demonstrations and tastings of Mediterranean cooking techniques including:
• Making Fresh Mozzarella
• Tangine Cooking of North Africa
• Dolmas from Greece
• Flatbreads of the Mediterranean
• Pasta Making: Gnocchi and Ravioli
• Desserts of the Mediterranean
• Mediterranean Tapas

Central Market wine experts will present $10 wine seminars and tastings, including:
• Wines of Italy (noon-1pm)
• Wines of Provence and Corsica (1-2pm)
• Wines of Spain (2-3pm)
