Austinist Music Preview: New Release Tuesday

Hey, did you hear that Google bought YouTube? No? Well, then go buy some records.
Damien Jurado And Now That I'm In Your Shadow (Secretly Canadian)
October's releases seem to be in touch with the temperature drop (however small) and shift of mood. Damien Jurado's latest offering is the perfect example: dark, sparing treatments on the decline of romance in the Midwest, a disagreement between friends in the back of a pickup truck, and dusty antiques shivering in the breeze from a window left open, forgotten. "A man and a guitar" is probably not attention-grabbing enough, as Jurado continues to be one of the most gifted and prolific songwriters around, carrying on a decade-long tradition that doesn' t seem to know the meaning of the word "decline".

Various Artists Marie Antoinette (Verve Forecast)
When you're Sophia Coppola, getting Kevin Shields to contribute to your soundtrack isn't a big deal. You just call him up, say something like, "Sup Kev, was hoping you'd remix a Bow Wow Wow song for me." Naturally, he replies, "Duh, I'll be right over." Then you add New Order, Gang of Four, Adam Ant and Siouxsie and the Banshees tracks (among others) to complete the two-disc release, and slap Kirsten Dunst on the cover. Still thinking about it? Talk to your therapist about it.

Genre-hopping blogger favorites Cold War Kids' full-length serves as indicator of whether or not they're capable of out-lasting their web Zen.

Oxford Collapse Remember the Night Parties (Sub Pop)
Recorded in Brooklyn with John Agnello (Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady), the band's debut on Sub Pop is already gathering plenty of fanfare. Another blog-favorite, Oxford Collapse specialize in arty pop tunes and catchy jingles. Lots of "yeahs", lots of layered vocals and sonic guitars remind us of the late 90's, but maybe that's coming back. Is there a remix album yet?

Chin Up Chin Up This Harness Can't Ride Anything (Suicide Squeeze)
They've ditched Flameshovel for Suicide Squeeze and treated Pitchfork Fest fans to a set this summer, and they're still riding the wave of web-success following We Should Have Never Live Like We Were Skyscrapers, but this summer's golden boys show promise, but will have to prove they can crawl out from under Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! and Wolf Parade's shadow.
